I'm thinking about swapping the ATF on my tranny to 80w-140. Would it be Alright to run it and it not hurt anything?

Don't do it. Use the recommended ATF. Gear oil is too thick to get through all the ports ATF easily gets into. It will cause wear and cavitation in some bearings due to the gear oil being so thick it will not flow freely through the bearings.

If the transmission is a Mitsubishi, the gear lube is the correct choice. Gear lube is a bad idea for a Mazda transmission.

Is there a way I can check if I got the Mazda or mitsubishi tranny?
