I am aware that timing is done thru the computer however, is there a sure fire way to check to see if the timing on these motors is out a bit? I know you can't old school them with a timing light and check manualy. is there another way to do this with out taking the truck to a shop?

thanks

It is done through the PCM.

It is completely done through the ICM.

First the CPS sends a signal to the ICM. The ICM uses this and signals from the PCM. Timing advancement and retard are made in the ICM. EDIS is a completely stand alone system.

You should be able to pull the spout connector and check timing with a light though, but you won't be able to adjust anything.

The only mechanical thing that could affect timing is the chain.

What or were is the spout connector I keep reading about, I would like to check mine and see if thats why it takes a few cranking to get it started.
