Can anyone identify this axle?

My 91 has the same 3 hole piece. Not sure what its for. I used it as part of a slapper bar mount for my race truck.

Seems to be a factory thing..

The only vehicles ive ever seen with something mounted there were aerostars.

Thats definatly not an aerostar axle as it has spring perches and aeros ran coils.

I never bothered crawling under an aerostar to see what it was.

See it hanging to the right of the pumpkin?

I'm trying to remember if 1st gen explorers, aka TTB ones, were spring over.

On 2nd gen, aka SLA Expos, there is a shock mounted to the pumpkin via those holes to reduce wrap up, etc.

All leaf spring explorers were spring under axle.

Possible a panhard mount for a coil spring rear and they just saved money by not casting two specific pumpkins?

Possibly.

I never crawled under the aerostar i had because i was afraid it would collaspe.

Thanks for the info guys....I know the Mustangs have a big weight that bolts to both side of the pumpkin but couldn't remember if Rangers had it. Guess it was a good find for 55 bucks.

That shock makes no logical sense to me.

It is for all sorts of options. Mostly vibration dampening.
