Cam timing

I just got my motor torn apart and the cam and crank where out by one tooth I'm just wondering if this is a normal thing to see or if the last guy was a idiot.

Not normal. Easy to do when working in the cramped engine compartment.
 
All right thanks that's what I had thought I just wanted to know for sure.
