Zero compression on #6. I assumed that I had a blown gasket. Before removing the head I carefully marked the cam sprocket and chain thinking it would be simple to match the sprocket key to the cam when I reinstalled the head. Well come to find out all I had was a broken valve spring but then I found, with some amazement, that there is no key and the only thing keeping the sprocket in place is the torque on the bolt. That seemed insane to me. Anyway, now my Chilton's tells me I need two "fixtures" to set the cam timing one to position the cam by the slot in the rear and the other to hold the cam in place. I do not have access to these Fixtures. Are there any alternative methods to install the cam precisely?

I am pretty sure you can buy the fixtures online (not cheap). I understand those fixtures are the only way to time the 4.0 SOHC engines.
