c6 leak

my stock 2wd c6 leaks like a sive from the bellhousing when in reverse or any forward gear. doesnt do it in park. should just be a front pump seal, right?

the pump bushing has slipped forward,this exposes a pressure port to the front seal area,which is not designed to seal against that type of pressure.the pressure builds when you are in gear...neutral or park there is much lower pressure.the pump needs to be removed to change the bushing,a new seal will be put in at the same time,but just putting a new seal in at this point will not fix the problem.check for wear on the t/c bearing surface-this or a worn bushing is usually what makes them walk out.

damn i heard about that issue and was hoping it wasnt that haha. but if i'm gonna go through all the trouble of pulling it, i think im just going to replace the entire pump assembly. i can pick one up for $77 from PATC so i think that's the way to go. while i have the trans out i'm gonna do the extension housing bushing, too.

no problem...i've dealt with this problem before.it's a real pain to pull the trans,change the seal,reinstall,and have the fluid puke out still.....and have to pull the trans again.

any idea of how big a job it is? can i just pull the tc, unbolt the 7 pump bolts and pull it out? some people were saying i gotta push it out from the inside?

ya,you should pull the pan,and valve body.then you can get behind it with a big screwdriver.it's not that big a job and it gives you a chance to check out a few other things in there.don't forget to get a new filter while you're at it.

alright man will do. maybe i'll toss in a shift kit too while i'm at it. i heard the B&M kits are crap... so i'm guessing transgo is the way to go? they seem to be the biggest mfgr of these kits...

haven't tried the transgo,but the b&m i wasn't happy with.been running mostly stock shift-seems to work pretty good for most of what i'm doing.sometimes full manual shift would be nice,but it can be a pain too sometimes.on the ranger i'm going to a zf 5 speed,time will tell if i like it or hate it.

well, i pulled the trans today and now i'm confused as sh!t.

as far as im concerned, if that seal or even the bushing on the trans was bad, the transmission side of the torque converter would be SOAKED (especially considering that this thing would PUKE fluid in gear). well, mine is dry. so that leaves the rear main seal, right? (i thought it was engine oil leaking out in the first place, but ruled it out since it only leaked in gear). WTF why would a rear main seal leak ONLY in gear???

i sure hope i can replace it without pulling the motor...

dug a little deeper and pulled the rear main cap. the bearing is WIPED OUT, but to be completely honest, i dont care. i'm working on a 408w or 427w (havent made up my mind yet) and i'll run this little thing till it blows. it should still run decent as it is. but thats besides the point. the two piece rope type seal looks really hard and dry, and it was clocked 90*, which in theory shouldnt matter, but i always thought it was around 10*.

anyways tomorrow i'll head over to napa, grab a rear main seal kit, and hope for the best. probably wont finish tomorrow since im goin to a party that night, but i should find out if it fixes things or not by sunday. anyone know if i should get another rope type seal or should i go to a newer style rubber lip type seal? im pretty sure the two types will interchange with eachother.
