bypassing power steering temporarily?

So blew out my power steering gear box in my truck yesterday, and unfortunately i dont really have time to replace that for another month yet.

so what i was thinking was just figuring out what size shorter belt that i need, and just cutting out the power steering entirely until then.

anyone have any recommendations or any reasons why this wouldnt work?

edit: 94 ranger, 4.0, manual, has ac
 
Not sure you will get a good enough angle on the water pump pulley without P/S pulley
But you can try it, if you hear squealing then water pump is slipping
 
I bypassed my power steering with an idler pulley. I think this is what you'll have to do because as Ron said, there likely won't be enough angle to engage the water pump properly.

Not to mention, driving it with an unpowered power steering box is borderline dangerous, given how difficult it is to turn the wheel.
