building custom power pump location question(s)

On the 302 swap, the 302 power steering pump will not fit where i want to place it. So I have a good one from a 4.L motor that I am going to build a new mounting bracket for it.

Q 1- If I used a smaller sized pulley on the pump, will speeding up the pump do any damage?

Q 2- Has anyone done this type mounting and using a 4.L pump... any probs you have doing this?

How much smaller are you talking? If only about an inch, shouldn't be an issue, if you're planning on using one half the size that's a different story... I believe they use the same pulley on everything, Ford used the same pump on the 4 cylinder Rangers to the crew cab 4x4 F350's (I have both...) The Ranger has a small crank pulley about the size of the power steering pulley so around 6000rpm max pump speed, Powerstroke has a crank pulley at least 50% bigger so ~5000rpm max pump speed. I imagine more won't hurt anything, there's usually a very large safety margin...

hi scott, not much smaller and yes probably about an inch or so.. had to take off the serpentine pulley and will be putting on a V-belt pulley and I have one that is a bit smaller than what was on there.....
