Broken sway bar link???? Help please!

I noticed a loud creaking sound when going around corners and such earlier today and decided to take a gander underneath and found this! Is this the "sway bar"? Ive been reading that I could just take it off for better flex off road and such, which i dont think would be a major thing for me but if i can just take it off and forget about it that'd be great...

The split there in the pic...the bolt broke clean off. I wasn't wheeling or doing anything crazy...just first noticed it when I drove off hauling my newly acquired wheels and tires. Thanks for any tips guys, on how to deal with this

Quite a common thing with the SLA trucks. You can either replace the link end or toss the sway bar. If you like how it drives now (minus the noise) it won't drive any different completely removed.

It's probably a good idea to keep the sway bar, considering it may be your only sway bar on a SLA IFS truck. Links are cheap...get some new ones (the other side probably isn't much better) and put them on.

Advance stores around here even have Energy Suspension links in stock.

The links have been redesigned to be much stronger. Moog or TRW both use a metal link and polyurethane bushings. If it were me, I'd replace both sides to the updated versions so you dont have to worry about the other going bad...

Yeah, you can buy those links rather cheap at auto parts stores. I've replaced 3 on two different SLA trucks.

Cool, i looked into it and yeah the moog is under 20 bucks for new links w/ lifetime warranty. As for now I took both links off until I have a chance to get the new ones. By the way, what is an "SLA" truck? thanks guys

I ran into the same problem with mine after I cranked the torsion bars....

I have not noticed any reason for concern at this point... I drive the truck 100 miles a day with no problems


the sway bars ARE there for a reason. If it is a concern of yours then I would get the links replaced.

My sway bar is still hangin there with no links. I want to take it off completely, but not sure how that will go with PA's retarded-ass inspection laws. In 2 weeks im installing a body lift
