On a daily driver / weekend wheeler what would be a better break shoe / pad?
There for a 91 explorer 8.8, should i get the semi-metallic or ceramic shoes? i don't want to go cheep thats all i know.

Just stick with a good quality semi-metallic.

Like Raybestos, Bendix, or Wagner, etc.

Usually the house brand pads are marginal at best.

Stick with motorcraft.

run the cheapest organic pads and shoes you can buy.

metalic and ceramics in particular will cause excessive wear on your rotors and drums. a $25 set of brake pads is a lot cheaper and easier to replace than a $60 rotor.

thats how quickie lube places can offer lifetime brake pads: the pads are so hard they eat rotors.

What do you man by organic pads any brands off the top of your head?
I have had some bad luck with cheep pads before, I want something that will hold up.
Im also looking for the best stopping ability on and off road.

if i were you i would go with wearever golds or wagner pads.advance has, ill start from the best to worst. wagners, friction master ceramics, wearever golds, and then finally the worst pads you can buy wearever silvers. i would get a set of wearever golds and a set of wearever rotors. they wear fairly well. plus they have a lifetime defect warranty on them. if they ever get high spots or the pads wear like crap take them back to advance and theyll defect them out and give you new ones for free. (i work there)

many cheap brake pads/shoes use organic friction material. the ones i have on the truck now are from napa and came in a green box (sure-stop or safety-stop...something like that. their the cheapest ones napa sells).

you dont gain stopping power with ceramic or metalic brakes. if anything, you loose it.

I have "premium" wagner thermo-quiets on all 4 corners. Never again. My rotors look like I have been running my pads down to the metal with only 5k them, but my pads look brand new.

My Corolla has the pads almost completly worn, and the discs are like mirrors (cheap Midas brake job parts), the Wagners on my Ranger don't even reflect they are so scored.

you dont gain stopping power with ceramic or metalic brakes. if anything, you loose it.
