This is perfectly normal and does not indicate a problem. This is how my '88 2.9l works, and my '88 EVTM circuit diagram confirms this behavior is correct.
My State inspector insists that it should light up for a "self-Check" just like the seat belt light. I can't see anything in the wiring diagram that would allow the light to do that so I suspect you guys are right. Thanks for your input and keep those Ranger's "Trucking"
