My credo
Break it right the first time. Fix it better the next time.
Going to pour the slab in October. 30X40 and going to pour footers for snap on car lift that I got for free.

Nice :)

Don't forget to look at in slab heating, long term heating costs are much lower and in a shop................well laying on the floor in Winter, enough said.

It is mostly 50 or above in the winter. Never stays in the 30's down here more than a couple of days.

Well now that is hardly sporting.

I believe in slab pex can be used for cooling too. If your winters are that warm, your summers must be cooking.
I'm envious about your build. Good for you.

Nice Craig...

30X40 will take a few years to fill it up to the point you need a shed so you can get at that hoist... lol

I beg to differ;
I rented an old dairy barn 50' x 500'. I had that half full in 2 years. Then I had to move out. Some people got wicked deals in my yard sale.

I have two sheds and two carports already. Now I will be able to spread my clutter evenly for a couple of years. I have a scrap pile at the back of the property for the big stuff. Beginning of June we were having 110 degree weather with heat index and 75 % humidity. After about an hour outside it looks like you jumped in a pool because you sweat through your clothes.

Welp. Now I hit a snag with the county. They decided I can't build a shop unless I split off my grandmas land and tear down one of my carports.

That's usually where most dreams of building what you want are somewhat shattered...

The wife has big dreams about what she wants to do when we buy property in Michigan. I don't think it will ever happen due to zoning and the building inspector. I'm just gonna sit back and watch her fight the battle...

Well I will update a the process goes on so everyone can feel my pain lol.

I built a 30x40 shop in 2016 - best decision I've made. Hope you can proceed with yours. I live out of city limits by just a hair so the building permit was pretty easy to obtain. I wouldn't have been able to build what I did if I lived in town.

Sometimes the county can make a stink about things too though.

We are trying to make our barn into a rental venue and are currently jumping thru hoops for the county.

Yeah, really depends on the county you live in. Some around here are very strict and others have no zoning, codes or otherwise.

The fence in my back yard is the city limit line... it's weird that if I walk a couple feet past the fence into the field back there, I'm in a totally different jurisdiction.

I live in outside the city in the county. They told me for my zoning I can only have one dwelling and 3 accessory structures. Me and my grandma are on the same parcel so we or over that. They told me to get 3 acres deeded out so I am on my own. After I do that then I have to demolished one of my carports to qualify for a shop. It's sad I have to go through this. I understand codes like this protect property value and the next owner but I feel if it is being built right and is nice then there should be some leeway.
They won't even pave our main road and raised our trash bill while going to one day a week trash pickup. They tax us for everything.
