Bleeding Clutch slave cylinder

I put my motor back in my truck after rebuilding it and when I started it up, there was no clutch. I had a real good clutch before I pulled the motor out. I tried to bleed the slave cyl. and still nothing. I pulled the motor back out and replaced the old slave cyl and I got everything back together this evening and still no clutch. What's the best/easiest way to bleed that slave cyl? I'm just about at my witt's end with this project. Any ideas?

No pedal pressure, or pedal feels good but the clutch doesn't release?

No pedal pressure. I can't get the shifter in any gear when the motor is running.

If you do a search, you should find instructions for bleeding the master cylinder. That sounds like your problem.

I just replaced my entire clutch system this past weekend (disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing, pilot bearing, slave cylinder, master cylinder, resurfaced flywheel) and the method that has always worked for me is to run a hose from the bleeder valve to the master cylinder reservoir. The hose end has to fit TIGHTLY over the bleeder valve while the other end must be sumbmerged in the brake fluid.

You will also need an assistant. Have the assistant pump the pedal while you are under the truck opening the bleeder valve. Leave the valve open while pumping too! Takes me about 30 minutes or so with a "brand new never been used system".

Eventually you will get it and the results are always great.

some of the slave cylinders have a plastic
bushing about 1 1/2 " long about the same dia.
if that is gone it does that.

is fluid going back in to the resevoir? if so the o-rings or valve mechanism is bad in the master. happened to me and the fluid just went into the res. instead of me being able to bleed the system.

heard that if you leave the lid off the res. and slowly pump the clutch holding it to the floor for a few seconds it will bleed air out on its own.... yes this has worked for me before everyone tells me it don't work.

ive taken an oiler can a filled if with fluid stuck it in the reservoir an pumped it untill the pressure was built up an head it there. had some one crack the bleeder an then did it a gain for a few times.. then i pumped the crap out of the pedal an got the last of the air bubble out an i had a clutch.. always seemed to work for me.

Seems like everyone here has a certain/different method they have used that works well for them.

All I can really tell you is that once you find out how to properly bleed this Ford system (and find which method works best for you), just use it every time and you'll be fine.

That's how I came to the method I use. There are a lot of people here that swear by bench bleeding though, and that seems to work well for a vast majority. All I know is my method works for me and I don't knock anyone else's method so long as the end result is the same........a properly bled system that functions properly. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

The only thing I'll add to that is that I seriously doubt anything is actually broken. Given that everything worked before you pulled the trans, it's far more likely that it's only a bleeding issue. Pick a method and good luck. Hardwareman's method should work, or I've posted one many times in the past that works very well for me. Pulling it to bench bleed shouldn't be necessary.
