ok im setting pinion bearing preload, i need a dial or beam style in/lb. torque wrench, due to the fact that mine vanished into fat air, cant find one local, anybody know where to pick one up around the pomona california area im willing to drive around 50 miles to get one. any ideas? or if some one has one local i can borrow for a day or two or rent.:icon_thumby:

There's no harbor freight near you? Autozone, advance auto, Oreilly's, Sears, Lowes, home Depot, napa, or anything? There's gotta be something near by that carries them. Even craigslist...?

Everyone has torque wrenches just not what I need for gear set up.all the in/lb stuff is click type.

I only have novice experience with torque wrenches. I do have both types but a click type should do the job. Unless it's just preference then I feel you but craigslist might be your best friend. also surely some store has dial wrenches for sale they aren't that rare....weird.

check autozone i rented one from them a while back or tool sore s sometimes has loaners

There you go see just gotta shop around lol. What brand is it?

In a pinch you can make something up. torque is just force x length. Depending how much you need a 1 or 2 pound hammer will fill the bill. Hang a pound 12 inches from the pinion center line and you have 12in lbs Do some math and you can easily get in the range listed for preload. I've tested it against a wrench and it's pretty much the same for obvious reasons. Obviously this will not work if you have the axle out and the pinion flange pointing up at you. Or some will split hairs and argue the the mass of the bar is causing torque which is true but so is a torque wrench if it's being used in the same orientation.
