Is it safe to run a 2amp battery charger maintainer like a battery tender through the cigarette lighter? :icon_confused:

My truck is old enough to have an actual always live cigarette lighter, but still computerized and technified. (2009).

I do this all the time on my 65 mustang but there's no circuits at all on that thing, I just dont want to end up frying the SJB or PCM.

Considering how easy the Rangers melt the dash surround around the cig lighter, I'd say it's a no-go.

I wouldn't do it myself. I'd just crack the hood and hook it to the battery like it's supposed to be done.

GB :)

Sensible answer. Thanks.

2 amps.

wouldnt think twice about it.

15 amps.....yeah....what bird said.

Yes, 2amp charger in AUX or cigar lighter won't cause any problems, should have 10amp fuse on that circuit
And it should be Live 24/7, so will charge battery key off and out

Even in later models with Battery Saver Relay the AUX/Lighter is not part of that circuit

But as Bird76Mojo said, I think it would be better to hook up charger to battery directly, then put the plug in for it behind the grill, like a block heater setup, so you don't have to open the hood, just plug it in, which you have to do with the charger inside the cab, so easier to do it under the hood IMO, than leaving window or door open for the AC extension cord

Hooked it up to the battery. I fused it. What fuse should i use for a 2 amp charger? Its one of them smart fancy maintainers but i still want the harness fused. Im thinking 5 amp?

Why you dont buy a powerbank to refill the electric energy? Its much easier

You'll need to get more from the bank!

does the bank have more??? They told me they gave me all they had already......

Who recharges the bank?

I think the purpose here was to have a quick easy way to connect a maintainer without opening the hood. Looks like "mission accomplished" to me. I don't see a reason to charge a power bank and then use that to charge the truck. Seems like extra work and time.

Yea why would I charge one thing to charge another thing? :icon_confused: plus the point is to use a long term battery tender not a jump pack. I solved the issue months ago. The extension cable hanging from the grill works perfectly.

My little solar charger plugs right into it too while I'm camping.
