Background Info. 89 ford ranger 2.9L 5 speed manual

When I was replacing the head gaskets, I was checking wires and found a wire that runs around the front of the engine that is bare wire (aluminum?) that is wrapped in tin foil (like gum rapper) It was with a slue of wires wrapped in the plastic wire wrap. The bare wire was broken all but 1 thread. what does this wire do. I cant find it in the schematics.

I am thinking some kind of communication wire or ground but IDK... :icon_confused:

HELP! thanks.

I dunno what its for. It is factory though.

Well, I cut it and spliced it together with some copper wire... I dont know what it will change.
It baffles me bc I cant find it on the wiring schematics. and the fact i was down to 1 strand
It starts that is all I know.

its there for the optional flux capacitor

That sounds like a RFI shielding wire. (Radio frequency Interference) Its usually wrapped around wiring they dont want to pick up stray signals (Ign, PIP, Etc.)

That is what I thought it was... I just didnt know what it was called. I still do not see it in the schematics. I want to know where it runs to/ from

When you say you spliced it, do you have aluminum wire spliced to copper? If you have them touching, I'd make it a temporary fix. Aluminum and copper don't play nice together. They will corrode pretty fast. Just an FYI if you didn't know already.

I know the wire he is talking about. I think it's made of copper stranding, but it isn't rubber insulated. It is just wrapped up with something that looks like the aluminum foil that gum comes in.

On my '86 BII that wire grounds to the case of the computer.(EEC)
