Ok so the other morning I went to leave for my exam and my b2 started up then immediately died, it will turn over just not crank, so I went about checking and replacing some things. I changed the fuel filter and checked that the pump was engaging, it was. I then changed the distributor cap, rotor button, and ignition coil, still nothing. Checked the alternator, it tested good. Then I had the tfi module checked and it came back bad so I figure problem solved, well not really, I got home and replaced it and now it still won't fire up, although it does seem to almost back fire when I let off the key. When changing the rotor button I did remove and clean the little plate it sits on if that matters, if anyone has any ideas what it could be please let me know, I've literally tried everything I could think of.

Double check the timing of your distributor, since you opened it up.

How can I do that, never messed with timing before so I'm clueless on it

Run a jumper wire, 12volts from battery to "+" on the coil.
Try to start engine, if it fires up then remove this jumper wire while engine is still running.
If it stays running then the START circuit on the TFI is the issue.
If it dies then the START and RUN circuit on the TFI are the issues

Look about 3/4 of the way down on this page: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/TFI_Diagnostic.shtml

I tried that a bit ago meant to message you back, it didn't crank however I'm not positive I did it correctly, I pulled the other red wires out that were on the positive and hooked the jumper up then put the negative (green) wire back in the other side, but it still wouldn't start

I just realized something, my rotor button was sitting 180 degrees from the number 1 plug last time I opened up the distributor cap versus pointing at the number one plug the first time I opened it, is this a sign of something? if so what and how can it be fixed?

the distributor(and cam) turn at 1/2 the speed of the crank(TDC mark)

So if you removed the distributor and then rotated crank to TDC to reinstall distributor you could be 180deg off.
If you haven't removed the distributor then yes it is normal for rotor to point at #1 on TDC and then #5 on the next crank rotation to TDC.

Rotor on distributor should be point at #1 spark wire when #1 cylinder is at the top(TDC) of its compression stroke

Ok I didn't remove the distributor just cap and rotor button, I'm really at a loss on this thing, hopefully I'll be able to work on it tomorrow afternoon and try to get something figured out with it, I fear it may have somehow jumped timing or something

No cam syncro, it uses a distributor

jmburton1993, have you tried spraying some fuel into the intake and then starting?
We assume it is a spark issue but may be it is a fuel issue.

no but i have pressure at the rail, will try this shortly though

Starting fluid(ether) is good to have in the tool box.
When you have a "no start" a quick spray of this into the intake tells you instantly whether it's a Fuel problem or a Spark problem.

I just pull off the PCV Valve hose spray some in then put hose back on.
Power brake booster hose works as well, whatever is easier.

well i retimed it today and still nothing, then as I held the key cranking it (for approximately 8 seconds) and then released the starter continued to engage and I had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop, at this point I'm just ready to put it on craigslist it just bothers me not to be able to figure it out but I don't have the time to put into it right now unfortunately

Have you checked out your ignition switch?

Not the key tumbler section but where the electrical connections are made.
