i have never installed a audio system before so how hard is it to install a new cd player in my truck and what do i need besides the spacer and the cd player cables
A wire stripper and either a soldering iron and solder or a bunch of red butt connectors and a tool to crimp them.
If you have the factory radio with the two holes in each side you will either need the special tool to remove it, four small screwdrives to poke in the holes or a steel coathanger cut up that nobody will miss to remove your old radio. The tool works the best.
I have found that using the 2 coathanger method worked pretty well, I didn't feel like spending 30 bucks on the radio tool, and with enough patience the coathangers worked well! just bend it into the shape of a U and pop it in.
I just put a new Alpine receiver and 4 R.F. speakers in my son's 2001 Ranger...and it was EASY! I bought it from Crutchfield. The great thing about buying from there is what is included with your purchase...bought the receiver...got the tools needed to remove the factory radio (FREE)...got the install kit needed to install the radio in the truck (FREE)...got the wiring harness for my vehicle (FREE)...and also got a master sheet that explains in good detail and with pics how to remove the factory installed radio & speakers and how to install the new stuff (also FREE).
If you are doing it yourself...it's worth it to check their site out.
All of that plus it depends on how custom you want to go. I have a Double Din in my truck that took me modding the radio bezel. Well worth the effort though.
