Argh... Speeding Ticket.

I got pulled over for speeding like 4 miles from where the cop actually flashed me, long story to explain. I was coasting down the hill around 52 -53 mph's and the speed limit is 45mph. I know my speedo is off a few miles an hour and I was compensating, it was about 50 on the speedo. Anyway I am going down like normal, some idiot passed me going probably 60 or so in the unplowed/unused lane of the road, whatever. I get about a mile down the hill and a cop flashes his lights to tell me to slow down (so I think) no siren or anything, so I slow down to around 45 drop it in 4th on my way... I look back after about a 1/8 mile he turns on his turn signal turns around and follows me down the rest of the hill about 1/4 mile between us (no lights or anything). I get to the bottom and slow down to the 35 then 20 as I am about to pull into the Elementary school (I am helping 6th grades edit their papers for a project in my college class) I pull into the center turning lane and flip on my turn signal, he is about to drive by when he pulls up behind me and puts on his lights again, well I figure I'll just pul into the parking lot and wait, wrong! when I got there he yells at me about not pulling over when he flashed his lights... what? I am pulled over. And you didn't keep your lights on before. You should have pulled over! what in the center lane? where was I supposed to go? (obviously I didn't want him getting hit by a car on the side of the highway, thinking of his safty here. Hello. lol, well I really didn't want a cop hit.) Any way He is getting really rude and B***HY, and it ruining my mood because now I'm actually going to be late and he need to calm down way to angry looking. gets my info and goes to the back of my truck and its starts shaking...? so I get out to see what the heck he is doing. Get Back in the Vehicle! (maybe a please sir?) so I got in my truck and waited for like 10 minutes waiting for him to get the ticket written, 10 minutes late now! gets out hands me the ticket. There you go... (nice now, smiling actually!) Any Questions? Nope... wait how fast did you clock me at? about 57 - 58mph. Ok thanks.


He leaves and I look at my ticket... $100's! 4 POINTS! WTF! the ticket says I was going 56 mph (mind you I know for a fact it was only about 52 mph's) and he pulled me over almost 4 miles away (not speeding) for no reason. Why didn't he pull me over right after he caught me "speeding", I don't think I have ever gotten my truck over 60 even when I was actually trying! Any way, I looked up the law in a 45mph zone anything up to 55mph is only 2 points off the license, 56mph = 4 points (Just be cause I am a 19 year kid! I only speed in cars that can speed in aka my dads car because I get carried away sometimes... never over 15 mph in good conditions.) GAHHHHHH! Just irritating, I think he saw my lights and stuff and was like "Boop! Stereotypical teen! Must make life a pain!" and I think he thought I was trying to avoid him by pulling into the elementary school (where I was actually going). Ahhhh! This is only the second time I was pulled over first was because of window tint, (how did that one know? both windows were rolled down!) anyway even though I was mad at him he was actually pretty cool about it you know... "Drive Safe" and stuff.

I am going to contest it and hopefully atleast get down to how fast I was really going and just the 2 points (why are court dates sooooo far away?). I hate being stereotyped, I don't speed like most kids I know and I don't drink or smoke while most kids do atleast one, I'm always the Driver, Sober as a bird.

Anyway... sorry for ranting just a bit frustrated right now, needed to vent. Think I am in the wrong here?

you're in the wrong for speeding (legally), and you're in the wrong for thinking he pulled you over to stereotype you lol... you're just being irrational, sure it might happen sometimes, but chances are, he clocked you speeding, and pulled you over.

the 4 miles later is weird, but i feel like you might be embellishing a bit. i am pretty sure i spelled that wrong, anyway, they have to have time to run your plates, so it takes a bit of time, but i doubt 4 miles...

To be compleatly honist. He could take as long as he wants to pull him over. They can wait up to 364 days before they can charge you. And as far as him being aggressive. He might have taken you getting out of your car as an aggresive action, and he was just following procidure. Your best bet to get off with the leastest of penility. Go and contest it. I dont know how the court system is in AK but in WI its almost a given to have the penility reduced when you go to court.

No it is seriously 4 miles from where he flashed me... ok maybe 3.5 miles, but seriously, why did he, he just flashed me from about 200 ft away, Lights off, turns around and follows me (after he looks at me) till I am almost to where I need to be. He clocked me going 5 faster then I really was now I have 4 points instead of the 2 I should Have! He wrote 56 on the ticket, if it was 55 (or 52 as I was doing) I would have had only 2 points., I can take that, but lying and saying I can do almost 60 in my POS is just crazy. And I know I'm not supposed to speed, I just don't think about it since my truck physically can't do past 55 normally anyway, specially since the carb was all Iced up.

Yeah but, they can't prove it then, really or well they would have to go through too much to care. He was agressive from the start, yell as he got out, practically hit my truck (pissed me off to wonder what he was doing behind it). I know I'm in the wrong for speeding, But he Blatently said 56 so that I got the full penalty for something I didn't do. Which has me madder, like he just wanted to do it because I am a teen, not saying thats why but I seriously think he had something against me. I still am and going to look up the Ak laws and stuff. Maybe my next college paper will be about it.

some cops in my town think theyre better than the state troopers. thats where im getting the super trooper thing from. cops also like pulling over young people in nj and giving them tickets for about 3 mph or so over. then they give everyone a hard time.

Yeah, same here, the troopers invade local territory, all of the time. Usually they watch for speeding at the end of the month too, but its the beginning which is weird.

Atleast you didn't get pulled over for going too slow like I did. Long story short me, my brother and my best friend plus about 600 pounds of camping crap stuffed in my B2 going up a 5 mile long stretch of 21% grade highway going about 45 in a 65 zone. I was in the slow lane but still got pulled over. Trooper comes up to my window and asks if I knew what the speed limit was. I said yes, its 65. He asks if I knew how fast I was going. I said couldn't be going faster then 50. He then asks what my problem was. I said it was a hell of a climb for the poor little 2.9. He laughed and said have a nice day and drive safe, and took off.

But anyways, troopers tend to be dicks.

The cops camera doesnt record unless his lights are going. Least around here they dont. His video will only reflect when he first turned his lights on. You should talk to an attorney and bring that up in court. (Ask for the video, or subpeona it)

Show up in court wearing a suit and tie. When they call you up tell the Judge your sorry for speeding, you were coming down a major hill and speed got too high and ask if he could please drop the points so it doesn't raise your insurance cost. Your best case is the Judge drops the points and you pay the fine. Keep your cool and show him respect and he might let you off easy. Say anything else or show attitude and you'll pay the fine and court costs and get the points. Been there - done that! Good luck.

I think if you know your speedo is off, then you more than likely do not know exactly how off it is. Your "know" is probably not near as accurate as the cops radar gun or laser gun.

Well actually I had a cop friend judge it, with me using her gun. I think all of our polices stuff is wonky, I had put some 35% for a month and got pulled over and the little thing that test tint said it was like 12 or 15%. I also judge by the speed trailer things. 3mphs fast with my winter tires (235/75/15's), and around 6mphs with my summers 31's.

and I don't want to bash cops, most of them are pretty cool, but this guy was just a Dick!
