Automatic
I ask this before but after reading other post i'm confused again. how many detents on a aod transmission? Is it first, second ,third than the od shifts by itself? Or is it first, second, third, forth. I hope I don't make anyone mad by asking again. Just trying to find which shifter i need. Thanks joey!:icon_confused:

There would be Four: OD, 3, 2, 1
Because you need to be able to select 3rd manually when pulling a trailer or going up a long grade because you don't want transmission to shift in to OD in those conditions

On an AODE or other electronic transmissions there could just be Drive(3), 2, and 1, and there could be a button to turn "shift to OD" on or off
Electric solenoids allowed that option

As said in previous post you could use regular "3 position" shifter, D, 2, 1
Only with the AOD it would be OD, 3, 2, so no manual way to shift to 1st
