Anyone put the tri-power on their 2.8?

Interesting.
I'm in the process of putting a Weber carb on my 87 Mazda b2600. It's nothing special tho, just a replacement for the emissions carb that the 2.6 came with.

Interesting. They make an intake for the 2.8L and the 2.9L.

It might look cool but I doubt you can get 3 2 barrels small enough for a 2.8. I put an Offenhauser dual port 4 barrel manifold with a 390 cfm Holley on a 2.8 I built for a friend's Sunbeam Alpine and it worked great. But. It had a Comp cam, headers, cylinder heads shaved .030", a T5 with a 3.95 low, in a car that weighed less than 2000 lbs. I think the dual port would work OK on a truck but 390 cfm is the biggest I'd run. The philosophy that if enough is good, more is better, and too much is just right doesn't apply to carb size.

This is a manifold with no plenum, so each carb throat feeds only once intake port. That increases the total required size of the venturis because they are not used very effectively - air is pulled through each for only one intake event every 2 revolutions. It looks cool and can work well, but why bother when a dual or single plane with some sort of plenum or sharing works as well, and you don't have to deal with synchronizing. Plus you can use a progressive carb and have much better metering at low airflow when only the primaries are open.

That said I had a way "too big" DCOE side draft on an 1100cc Sprite engine once upon a time, and it ran very well.

I think it has a plenum like the factory manifold- or an Offy- just split down the center which makes it a 180 degree manifold with the 1-4-2-5-3-6 firing order on the 2.8. I clicked on his link and for the price I'd build a V8, that thing is big bucks.
A carb that's too big or too small might run just fine, as long as you never try a carb matched to the application and see what you're missing. If you're happy with it don't mess with it- unless you're like me and can't help it.One of my old techs was running a 950 double pumper 4150 on the 514 in his Mustang and turning high 9's. Then he switched to a 1250 dominator and dropped back into the low 10's.
