The reason I registered was to share my recent success. Out of the blue, my truck started idling way to high, surging at idle, my vent selector switch quit working in the cab, the check engine light came on displaying 2 codes for running too lean in banks 1 & 2(Po 171 & Po 174) in addition to "check fuel cap" light...I was on top, underneath, and upside down tracing all the vacuum lines, replaced pcv valve and hard plastic tubing, cleaned MAF sensor, and was getting very anxious cause I couldn't find the cause. Today I was driving it around to get the check engine light to come on since I had erased the codes last week, and as I waited for it to cool off with engine turned off, I happened to accidentally bump the vacuum lines(red) where they connect to the right hand rear of the intake manifold, up on top, and saw them slip down...the main connection had worked its way apart, so nothing was getting vacuum except for the brakes. I plugged the vacuum line connector backbinto place, started the truck and it was fixed, much to my delight. So morale of the story...if you happen to start getting codes, before you start chasing ghosts, check the most simple and basic things first. I am really glad I didn't dive in headfirst...I was ready to tear onto the instrument panel to find a leaking vacuum line.
