Another A4LD to M5OD Swap

Yeah... getting them out is no big deal, gravity helps a lot.

I flatten the pinch weld on first and second gen V6 trucks. It's not really necessary on 95+, definitely not needed ever on 4 cylinders and 3.0 trucks.

If you do decide to flatten your pinch weld, do yourself a favor and cut a few slots in it with a sawzall. Makes it a lot easier to bend it as separate pieces... you'll wear your arms out fast if you try to flatten it all at once.

Been a minute since I posted so figured I'd close it out. I got the drive shafts back on and tested last night and all is right in the world again.

Future folks; if anyone has any questions let me know. I'm more than happy to try to help.

Few highlights: for the 4.0 clutch/FW swap you definitely need a separator/dust plate (between bell housing/engine block) from a 4.0. The 2.9L starter will NOT work with the 4.0 FW/Clutch combo (extends deeper in to the bell housing than the 4.0 starter). Wiring was super simple for the swap (cut off the 5 plug connector from a4ld, shorted the 3 for neutral switch wires, and soldered in connector for reverse lights). For the clutch pedal all I did was weld a clutch pedal to the stock "pivot shaft" (not sure what to call it, but the rod that the brake pedal spins/rotates on). lined up perfectly with the master cylinder.

NOTE: I swapped in a FM146 btw... not a M5OD. I trusted the car-parts listing the junkyard put up, and didn't know what I was physically looking at when I got to the yard. So after I finally started doing research on the damn thing I realized I didn't have what I thought I did... Don't make too much fun.

think that's really it. Shout out to nakedducks for hooking me up with some parts and advice along the way. VERY helpful guy/member and best believe I'll be saving his number for the next time my '88 is acting up.

Right on brother!!

Wish you lived closer.... I could hook you up with a 2.9 M5OD.
