Since I had to sell my rust bucket b-2 and am having withdrawals, I've decided to do another. This one the body is almost mint, and comes with 4.10's, a 4" suspension and a 6" body lift. This '85 b-2 was given to me by a neighbor in thanks for helping store stuff when he was going thru a divorce. Good deeds sometimes pay :icon_surprised:
I also have a rolled '91 explorer with a good running 4.0/5-spd that I paid $500 for.
These two trucks I've been dragging around for several years waiting for the right time....and it's now.....ish. I have no garage and limited use of a concrete pad where I have my stuff stored. My plan is to do a quickish motor/trans/t-case swap and then finish the detail work in my gravel driveway. Not the most ideal conditions with winter nearly here.

I got the b-2 several years ago;

Looks good, the drivetrain swap should be cake with the body off..

And because my photo hosting site is screwed, I'm going to try to load pics from my phone.

I decided that since I removed the motor/trans/tc as a unit, I am going to put it in as one. So I removed the rad support.

Nope, the body isn't off any more and I don't have facility to do so. Too bad as everything is unbolted. Also the body is just resting on the frame right now. There is a custom gas tank that needs the lift for clearance reasons so I will be re-installing it, albeit with custom lift "pucks" trying to keep the body lift as low as possible. I'd rather there wasn't any lift but oh well.

Seems clearing everything out has left you some time to think about some of those old projects that were on hold it.... be interesting to see this one come together... its far too nice to sit covered in dust ;)

I should have bought one of those engine hoists off you... do you still have either?? I want to pull a couple engines out this winter and start putting together another B2.

I do have an extra hoist. Due you happen to have an extra gas tank? Maybe this time I'll have to come to you. PM me.

Ran into my first problem, the motor mounts are an 1 1/8" different.

'85 B2 would have had the 2.8l so I would imagine you will have to drill frame for 4.0l mounts, although I found this: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/4L_Conversion_faqs.shtml

Under "Miscellaneous Comments"

There is this:
I took a complete 1992 Explorer and gutted it without cutting any wires. I removed the engine & trans from my 1985 Bronco II [leaving transfer case intact]. I installed a 1992 Explorer engine & trans in not necessarily this order:

Put new rear main seal, oil pump, etc. in 4.0L

Serviced transmission

Used 2.8 mounts on 4.0 block [unmodified].

Ect............

Well, I was going to drill new holes in the motor mounts, unfortunately that won't work on the passenger side. I'm going to try to get the frame mounts from the explorer and swap them in.

Drilled new holes up the k member on passenger side. Exploder frame mount installed and the motor is in.

Plug looks like either reverse or nss...

Thanks to everybody for the input.

What a pain getting at the frame mount! The exploder mount holes needed to be drilled above the b-2 mount holes by about 1 1/4". I think I need to slot the drivers side motor mount by about 3/8". The exhaust on the passenger side is almost touching the frame. Or it may be easier to cut part of the frame away. I have to move the trans mount back by about 1 1/2".
I'm going to read the link that RonD mentioned in the hopes of saving myself some grief.

Or you could just put the right engine in the vehicle and not have to be cutting and cussing every time you turn around LOL.

Since you are going through all this trouble and the whole thing is already opened up, why not just drop a 460 in it...since NADA claims it was an optional engine in the Bronco 2.

The body came with no engine.
And I happen to have a 69 460....but it's going into my 68 Torino. :icon_twisted:
