Alternator fuse keeps blowing-60A??????

:bawling:Hi all, need some help on this one because the people @ Autozone/Advanced/VIP don't know their stuff.
I just replaced the battery & terminals on my 90 Ranger 2.3 l-4 ....everytime (EVERYTIME....) I connect one of the terminals, my alternator fuse keeps blowing. I am 95% sure that I connected the new terminals correct, help me out. The positive terminal should have 1 large wire and 2 smaller wire connected to it right? and the negative terminal should only have one wire the goes to a ground on the fender, correct? I have no diagrams or photos to upload....if someone could shoot me a pic of what the correct connectios are supposed to be, that would be awesome.....
 
Not having a wiring diagram I can't say right off the bat- If it were mine, I'd try to see where those smaller wires were going, and if I couldn't do that, I would hook up the main cables to the battery by themselves first- then add the smaller ones one at a time until a fuse blew. When it blows the fuse you know that wire is on the wrong terminal...
 
try unplugging the alt. and try it again if it blows then you know its not your alt. also
 
you got 'em bass ackwards. one big wire going to the fender is the hot side, goes to your starter relay. One big wire and two little ones is the ground. The big one is the main system's ground, the larger of the two small ones is your PCM ground, the 3rd is just a back up chassis ground.

I'm actually surprised that it's physically possible to hook it up backwards if you have the right battery. My hot line is so short that even if I put the battery in backwards it wouldn't reach the neg terminal.

If you have any sort of voltage meeter you need to check for which wire gives you a circuit to ground. check for ohm resistance and you will be sure which is ground.
