Hi all. I just bought a used 2002 Ranger XLT 4 cyl. runs smooth and perfect. And on top of that I paid a killer price for it. $1400. In Hawaii, especially the Big Island, a truck is almost mandatory to have. However, it did come with a couple of issues. First, in order to get it registered I have to safety it. That means all glass, lights, horn, brakes, tires, etc. must be in working order. Well, there were two things that I will have to work on in order to pass. #1 is the driver's side air bag light is flashing (pass. can be turned off). I may have to take it to the Ford dealer but they want $130 just to tell me what the fix is. #2, the driver's side outside door handle has to be replaced. I have no idea what that has to do with safety (I safety my Honda Odyssey with same problem and it passed) I can R&R the handle no problem, but now trying to figure out the air bag light problem. So if anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I plan to put the Ranger on non-op until the door handle (and a tailgate handle) arrive. I will be leaving the island next week but my son will be here for three more months and I think he can "handle" the handle. I also plan to order the left side door belt molding. That should also be an easy fix. Other than that, the little Ranger runs perfect. It will certainly get used around here, especially to pick up "stuff" and do a weekly dump run (no trash pick up here). I hope to lurk on this forum to see what else I can learn about the Ranger. Thanks for any help re: the airbag light.
