I just had an alignment, and front the driver's side axle shaft seal started leaking. I'm going to replace it tomorrow, and the shop says they will fix the alignment for free as it wasn't leaking before. I'm sure the seal was badly worn, as it's a reputable shop and the truck has 166k. It's a 4x4 with the dana 35.

I'm just curious, is it really necessary to have an alignment after pulling the axle shaft? It looks like I just pull the spindle off and pull the shaft out on the drivers side. The passenger side looks a bit more complicated.

I just saw that firestone has a 130 dollar lifetime alignment plan. Next time I'm getting it.

I know it can't hurt to check, especially since they'll do it for free. I"m just curious since you don't touch the ball joints or tie rod ends.

Not necessary.

I agree, just pulling the spindle and re-installing isn't going to change the alignment noticeably.
