I have a 88 BII with 4" lift and 31" tires and the 2.9 and A4LD tranny and my problem is when I try to pass someone or just full throttle the motor wont rev past 4500rpm then it will shift. The tranny shifts smooth and the fluid is good with no complaints other than not letting the motor rev a little. It's not cool because when it shifts to the next gear the rpm are kinda low. Is their a way to adjust this?

Check the vaccum modulator. It could be bad to begin with, check it by pulling the vaccum line off and make sure there is no transmission fuild in the vaccum line. You can adjust the modulator by inserting a small screw driver in the end where the vaccum line attaches and adjust the spring pressure (if it is an adjustable one) You can raise the shift point by turning clockwise, start with a half turn and see how much the shift has changed. Fine tune from there.

vacuum mod gets my vote.

IF you turn the screw, count and remember where you started.. trust me! lol.. this will cause you fits if you can't remember where you started at.
