when i go in reverse it seems like it popping out of gear. kind feels like a shutter. ive never had that happen before in any car. lol ive had reverse go out before. no shutter just revved high and didnt go anywhere. this one shutters but still backs up. sometimes with a lil more pedal than normal.

is this something that can be fixed with out a rebuild.

Huh, an A4LD with reverse problems, never heard of that before.

You can try adjusting the band.

transmissions are way over my head. how do you do that. and thx for the sarcasm. lol. never thought it would happen to me:bawling:

^^^^^^did not help. never said how many turns for a4ld trans. so i dont know if im supposed to tighten or loosen. thx for trying tho

If Im not mistaken, it clearly says you tighten it to 10 ft-lbs, then back it off two turns.

edit - reverse isn't an overdrive band... nevermind.

The reverse is not adjustable just the intermediate and OD bands are adjustable. Have you changed the oil filter and flushed out the tranny cooler. When you pull the pan look for excessshavings and muck in the bottom of the pan. About all you can do is flush the valve body and put in a new filter otherwise it will need a rebuild. Dont pull the valve body without a book.

thx for the sarcasm. lol.

Sorry, it's just so common that I can't help but see A4LD and Reverse in the same post without saying it. It's reflexive, kinda like saying "bless you" when someone sneezes.

I thought the A4LD had an adjustable reverse band. Eh, not the first time I've been wrong, probably won't be the last.

adsm08: its all good man ive gotten used to ur sarcasm. its funny now. i did laugh a lil cuz i knew it was coming from someone on here. :icon_thumby:

kim: i will try the flushing and ill let you know what is in the pan. this b2 sat for two years with out running til i got. the guy i got it from blew the heads and ruined the engine by still driving it til it wouldnt run anymore. i rebuilt the motor and bought the up graded heads and cleaned every part i could. new cam and lifters. same crank just turned.

but im looking forward to taking on a challenge of rebuilding a transmission. ive got a couple of older friends who have been rebuilding them for over 30 years. hopefully they can help.

lol lets do this:icon_hornsup:
