a4ld delayed forward reverse ok

I have a 93 a4ld, I rebuilt 2 years ago. I have a delayed engagement in all forward gears. Can take anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes to engage. Reverse is fine. Once it goes all is ok.

Really want to pin point the root cause since I did total rebuild about 5000 miles ago. My guess is forward clutch, one way clutch or converter clutch. When I rebuilt I used the transgo valve replacement and a new torque converter.

Could really use the help. Don't wanna pull the tranny unless I have to. Hoping to inspect valve body in vehicle? Any diagnostics anyone can reccomend? Thanks for any help. I have 4 of these transmissions all dead or dieing. 2 in vehicles 2 on bench.

sounds like a fluid level issue to me try adding a 1/2 quart of oil and see if it works normal. If so juat drive it and keep an eye out for a slow leak write down the mileage so you know how fast the leak is. Did you replace the sprags when you did the rebuild?

Thanks for the advice. I do have a leak but I add fluid regularly. I am pretty sure I did replace the sprag.

way to increase pressure

At this point I'm looking to buy some time. I understand reverse is engaged at a higher pressure and since this is fine I'm wondering if there's a way of increasing the line pressure in the forward circuit. Does vacuum play any role? Its gotta be something in the circuit that occurs right before the forward drive sequence. Once engaged it drives fine.
