I have a 99 Ranger XLT 4x4 3.0 which is equipped with the 4R44E tranny. All of the sudden, one morning reverse would not engage. Its as if you had put it in "Neutral". No noise coming from any place and no movement at all. After a great deal of reading I come to the conclusion that maybe it was the reverse band that had broken so I read where you could take off in 1st (manually) and when you gain some speed and let off the gas if the engine/truck doesnt begin to slow then the reverse band was broken since it uses the reverse band as a type of brake when coasting. Well, it did begin to slow as it should so I figured it wasnt the reverse band. I then dropped the pan and checked all the solenoids using a multi-meter and all were good. So just to make sure while I had pan off, I dropped the reverse servo out of it and using a screwdriver checked to make sure I was getting a spring like action when pressing the screwdriver up into hole and I was. Did not drop valve body down and take a good look at the gasket but I checked as best i could around the outer edge of where the reverse servo goes and did not see any blow outs of the gasket. New filter and fluid and...... NO REVERSE.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Maybe I need to take it to garage and get m to pull code or maybe do a pressure test to see that its getting to the 150 psi (best I can recall range which is needed to engage reverse. Thank you in advance for any advice you can give me and have a great day!
