I have a 99 ford ranger and i am trying to install a 302 in it. i am looking for any suggestions about what headers to go with. i have found some but they all state they are for up to a 97. Can i use these on a 99? the heads that are currently on the motor have the angled plugs as well. any help you can give me would be appriciated.

Most use the factory manifolds from 5.0L explorers

will these headers have the clearance for the angled plugs and what model year explorers?

All year explorers, 96-00 and the explorers ran the GT-40 and GT-40P heads, so it'll clear the angled plugs...

Torque Monster headers work well, and gain a significant amount of power over the stock manifolds. However, they are quite pricy, at 750 a set.

Thanks CJ, I couldn't remember the name of those things, but knew they had aftermarket headers for em:icon_thumby:

The early Explorers, 96 thru early '97' had the Gt-40 heads w/angled plugs and ran the really crappy tube type headers. Ford switched to the "P" heads and in Feb '98' went to the cast iron manifolds. Not sure if the cast irons will work on the angled heads. Feeling is that the tube type would work but first thing I do when I find a set is to throw them as far as I can. If you're going to build the motor up at all, go with the expensive Torque Monster headers. Bob will build them to match what ever you have.

Black Jack headers (tri-y) for a 1966 Mustang with a 289 are a direct bolt in but you have to weld in an O2 sensor bung on each side. I know these work because my brother-in-law bought a swap kit and these were the headers that came with it. And Summit sells them for around 149$!

Actually, the late 97s and early 98's still had the tubular manifolds. Agree with the throwing comment though, they are horrible. Damn near crimped shut in places, and are commonly broken between ports 2 and 3 on the passenger side, causing a bad but hard to find exhaust leak

This is for the 97 and previous trucks. I believe they have been shown not to fit in the 98+ torsion bar trucks, but not sure about the coil spring trucks.

Agreed! Don't think anyone makes a swap kit for the '98' & newer trucks, one not needed. Same fitment problems with both suspensions in the later Rangers. The tubes have to come up in the front to clear. Got a picture saved somewhere but not on Photobucket that shows the problem.
