Hey guys. Im jarrod. New member, long time lurker. I finally decided to make an account to ask this question because I can't find it answered anywhere and neeeeed to know asap.
1997 ranger 2wd 4.0l 5spd. The transmission input shaft was toast so I bought another one from a salvage yard that came on a 94 ranger. The guy said the trans wasn't original to the truck, but that it worked fine with the guy who swapped it in. Everything looks identical except there's a wire running from the passenger side to the drivers side along the top plate with 2 wire plug on the end. The original trans didn't have that. What's it for?
There's also one HUGE emergency. Even though both transmissions are identical except for the extra wire mentioned, when I try to slip my shifter into the new trans, it sits a bit too high. The cap doesn't come close to seating. I decided to try a new bushing kit, and same problem. The tip of the shifter is sitting bottomed out in neutral. I can shift 3rd, and 4th very easily unless I tighten down the shift cap. Also when going to 1+2, or 5+R, the shifter gets stuck and won't let me return to dead neutral. Its like the stub under the shift ball is too long by a few millimeters. I know the HD had a different shifter, but this is the one that came from my original M5OD-R1, and from what I can tell the F27A YA label on the new trams says it is the same kind. Help? Why does the stub on my shifter seem to be a bit too long for the transmission!? Any suggestions on a fix? Thanks guys.
