i have a '96 fanger 2.3 5 speed and at 2500 to 2600 rpm it jolt or sputters. i took it to the dealer and they said that 2.3 do that. took it to the dyno and the air fule ratio is fine. the truck has almost 300,000 miles on it. i have had a few people tell me different things that can be wrong with it.

1) it could not have the latest calibrations on it

2) could have a stickey valve

3) could be fuel pressure

4) could be ignition

can someone help me figuer this annoyin problem out

my 2.3 dosen't do that. haha. with 300k miles first thing i'd do is check compression.

have you put a code reader on it,?any fault codes?,it could be a lot of things

yea i had the codes ran and all that showed up was wheel spin on ice.

Try taking the vacuum line off of the EGR valve and drive it for a day or so like that. If that fixes it, you may need a new DPFE or PFE, whichever yours has. It's almost never the egr valve itself. Might look around over here for troubleshooting tips: http://www.tomco-inc.com/Tech_Tips/ttt31.pdf

can i put an aftermarket preformance chip in it and will that recalibrate it or do away with recalibreating it?

i wouldnt bet on it. mine does it too, its like a few of the plugs misfire for a sec. but since it has 2 plugs per cyl it doesnt lose all power to that cyl. mine does it worse on wet days. i just ride with it

i found out today that my ignition contorl module and crank positon sensor are bad and need to be replaced. im pricing the parts and as it stands its about $170 for new parts from autozone.
