hi all, cool forum. i recently bought a 96 ranger, was a fleet vehicle and has 260k ish or so.

anywho, it's throwing a p1120, tps out of range code. i've replaced it with a new autozone sensor, didn't change anything. i've tested it with key on engine off, it's getting 5v at the signal reference, and it is getting ground, and when i modulate the throttle it goes up and down smoothly from 1 to 4ish volts. so it seems to test fine.

i'm guessing i should look at the wiring next, but i can't find any diagrams regarding the tps. how do i test the wiring back to the pcm? has anyone had to test/replace their wiring? what is the next step i should look at?

You should be able to find a full PCM wiring diagram from your local library I have had good success there. I would test to make sure the ground is good, although if it wasn't more than likely other sensors would be bad since they have a common ground, but the wire could be broken just on the tps sensor. Also check that the connector is okay and has continuity.

completely forgot about this thread haha. thanks cp2295. is there any diagrams online i can find? i've replaced the tps, and it still trips the code randomly. sometimes in 5 miles, sometimes in 300 miles. i'm thinking theres a short in the wiring somewhere. can i disconnect the wiring harness at the ecm, and the connector and check for continuity between all the wires, or do they split off to feed other things before the ecm?
