94 B3000 5spd 4wd Trans GONE!

I'll start by saying; <<<< NEWB! .... lol.... Not a Ranger/Mazda Tech, in any way. In fact, I'll be even more painfully honest and share, ....I'm a 1st Gen 4Runner Collector/Restorer.... And, well, aside from those and plenty of Classic American Cars I've done.... I know NOTHING about the Ranger/Mazda Era...

My Question is this, short of it;

** My Brother In-law's Father passed away, recently... He left the Bro-N-Law a B3000/1994 4WD..... The trans was ran dry by other hoodlum relatives before he got it.... So he's wondering what Trans can be swapped into this Mazda? (And, of course, "What other issues might he run into" ?)

I read the FAQ a bit and the Tech Write ups on Trans Codes.... Not sure I'm get the Section on Mazda, as it doesn't show "4wd" in there... (Again, PLEASE forgive my research failure... But I tried, and that's why I'm here, as this site popped up in Google right quick. Also... My pops had open heart Surgery just 10 days ago.... 84yrs. old.... Lots of "Work/Hospital/work/hospital/3-4hrs. sleep/repeat" haha. No excuses.... just explaining why I might be unable to figure this out like I normally would?

Thanks, in advance, for ANY help with this!!!! I will be picking it up for him(a donor trans) and sending it home with his wife(step-sister)... I just wanna be SURE I hook him up properly(They live in Deep Woods Nor-Cal with no internet/etc., and he's carless till she returns with this trans and the other car, ).

You will need a 4x4 M5OD trans out of a 93 to 2008 B-3000 or 3.0 equipped Ranger.

The 3.0 part is a must here because it has a bell pattern that is unique among the Ranger engines.

Strange thing... I had read on another forum that only 95+ Ranger 3.0 4wd Manual Trans' would work in the 94 Mazda.... Good thing I asked here!

Hey Guys, (Not sure on that, Stegomon).....

I called a yard I know in Wilmington, CA, and the guy said when he crosschecks, the 'swapable' applications are only 92-94 4wd 3.0L Ranger 5spd..... I don't doubt anyone's knowledge, especially on something I've no knowledge thereof, myself! lol. Just a lil concerned, as my Bro-inlaw already had grabbed a trans that he was told would work, from another 3.0 ranger, and his bell housing didn't line up or something.(I'll have to get more info on that).

Btw, WOW, not very common a part.... I've been looking. One in Santa Clarita/One in Ontario, CA, when the guy I knew ran a "Yard's Inventory Check"...

The 3.0 wasn't an option until 92, and not a common one then. That's why I put my cutoff as 93.

If he got one from a 3.0 truck and the bell didn't line up, then it wasn't from a 3.0 truck.

Just for grins did you re-fill the trans? . Mebbe apples and oranges but I know of a car that was driven 600 miles on a drained trans. It was refilled and it soldiered on, noisily, but it functioned

You could always do a re-build on the original trans.
