i have succesfully converted a 94 ranger 2wd 4.0 a4ld to a 96 4r55e
that means everything trans firewall dash all harnesses . everything
all for reliability and compatibility
now i can simply step up from 4r55e
to 5r55e just by swapping computer .
was it worth it?
the answer is NO.
i put in an overly sensative transmission in that is electronicly
controlled by the computer.and its the same as a4ld
so overtime a 4r55e will develop the same issues as an a4ld
but now instead of dealing with it like you did in the past
now the computer is going to have a mind of its own .
and not allow a shift or will be in fail safe mode every time
it senses an issue . so not only will you be taking the bus to work
you beat yourself up for the wasted time to do conversion when you
could have swapped to manual.
this isnt my truck i just wanted save it from the junkyard
but its destiny is the junkyard.
I made this thread for anybody researching the conversion
and the answer is NO nothing fits/works its all custom
only thing that Fits is the transmission everything else has to
be customized to work . you need a whole truck to swap transmissions
now how stupid does that sound?
and to any who dissagree
im not trusting ford enough with wiring diagrams
to splice in 2 computers to make this work
let alone when a fuse blows . what a joke.
**** ford.
