I've just replaced the tumbler part of the ignition and there is a sensor semi-imbedded in it. The little plastic tang has broken off, and now I'm getting an alarm just for opening the drivers door. Does anyone know the official name of that little crittur and/or part number? I have not been able to find anything on it, although I haven't had the opportunity to go to the dealer yet.

The only thing that is related is the RF key antenna. It should not do anything with the alarm when the door is open, unless it sets the alarm when it is disconnected.
Some people that only have one key will remove the key 'head' and zip tie it under the column cover and use a plain mechanical key. The 'head' is recognized as an authorized key by the RF scanner, and the mechanical operates the lock cylinder.
Do you have anti-theft? Did you authorize the key(s) that fit your new lock cylinder? If you do have anti-theft, does the PATS - passive anti-theft system- blinker on the dash go out when you put the key in the ignition? If not, the key is not recognized...

I don't think this is as new a rig as you are thinking of. I have only a mechanical key, what I believe to be the OBD1 system, there are no lights that come on in the dash for security (like my 98 car), and though I have only had this pu for a few months, I am not aware of any aftermarket security stuff in it. In doing several repair/tinkering things I have noticed that the plastic connectors seem pretty brittle and break easily, this little sensor is no exception. What it used to do was chime when I shut off the motor and got out of pu with key in ignition, now it chimes without key in ignition as soon as I open the door. I can't find it on RockAuto and so far no luck in googling it, none of the names that I can think of work in finding it.

It is the Key in ignition switch
But if wire is disconnected it should not be Chiming with door open

The switch is Grounded, the wire runs to the Chime module, module also chimes if head lights are left on.
When Chime module "sees" a Ground(key in) on that wire it will chime if ignition is off and door is opened, some chime even if engine is running, first step in Door Ajar system, lol.
If no ground then it "thinks" there is no key in ignition switch

So unless that wire is shorted to a Ground there should be no Chime

Good read here on that switch: http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20076

Many WANT to disable it :)

The plastic tang on the sensor is now broken, which must be letting it short out, because the tang separated a brass tongue from the tumbler assembly. I think I agree with you, I will just unplug it and forget it.

Your welcome :)

Put a spare key in a "hid-a-key" box on the outside of the truck somewhere
That dinger may be annoying but it can prevent you from locking yourself out, lol.
