93 Ranger, How do we replace the Master & Line to the Slave? Together or Seperate?

My Dad and I are replacing the master cylinder and the line to the slave cylinder tomorrow on my 93 Ranger (4.0L 5speed, four wheel drive) before the snow hits tomorrow night.

The instructions with the master cylinder say to connect them together on the bench, bleed them, then install. Seems like it would be tough to route the hard plastic line once it is connected to the master cylinder but we've never done this before so we wanted to ask.

Is that they best and easiest way?

Or should we try to install them separately?

The line is from Napa and looks pretty much identical to the one that came out with the hard plastic line and all.

Thanks for the advice.
Sam

It is difficult to install the master and the line together, but it is not much harder than installing the line by itself, and much much easier than trying to bleed the master with it installed in it's normal orientation.

Hook up the new line and bleed it. Then remove the old master and line together as one unit, and pay very close attention to how it was routed and what you did to get it out. After that you should be able install the new one without much trouble.

I put them in that way and it took me a few rounds before I got good at it. The key is patience and persistence, and to not get frustrated and just cut the old line.

Removing the inner fender well!

Once we took that out the master/line combo installed in minutes and we had the truck back on the road in just a few hours.

I did mine a couple of years ago, got frustrated with it and let it sit for a day, when i went back to it, things went easier, sometimes you have to step back and get to it later. I replaced the master and line as a unit(bench-bled it of course) and i left the inner fender alone.

Just did this yesterday, took me about 2 hours including a run to the store. Take a pic of the line routing before you remove it (I would have liked to have had that). I ended up pushing the cylinder/res/line from underneath the truck. Wasn't difficult once I figured out how it was supposed to go in.
