Hey guys I've been helping my brother with replacing the 4.9 straight 6 in his f150. Primed the oil pump, had pressure, then when we fired it up had no pressure registering on the mechanical gauge we had wired up. We called the number for Spartan and their tech had no idea, called a few friends and they were stumped too.

Anybody know what could be going on? It's a brand new spartan reman 4.9, no idea why it would be doing this.

Thanks in advance.

Is the 4.9 oil pump driven by a hex rod from the distributor? Is the distributor hex hole the right size? A mechanical gauge wouldn't be wired up, it would have a tube going from sender to gauge. Is yours mechanical or electric? If electric check for signal at sender. If signal there then suspect gauge.

Yes it's hex rod, it's the right size and it's a mechanical gauge.

You didn't just wire up the light in the gauge?

No idea on 300 but on a SBF the rod is only held up by a clip, if you are not careful inserting the dizzy (or assembling or priming) you can push the rod down on the clip so it won't go into the dizzy shaft.

How would this be fixed?

Problem fixed. Turned out to be a bad oil pump.
