93 2wd to four wheel drive conversion

Has anyone put a d35ttb under a 2wd frame? If so what did you have to do with the mounts?

I think I read the frame is different and it won't fit. I think people do swap in custom solid axle setups with custom leaf spring mounts.

Solid axle would be easier to swap in. The engine crossmembers are different between 4x2 and 4x4 so that makes it a pain since it's riveted and welded in place. Not saying it hasn't been done, but it's not easy... The easier method is what I did, I found a rolled Ranger of the same body style and engine size and swapped my then straight body on it... That way you get the transmission, transfer case, matching ratio axles and drivelines all in one shot...

That said, I'm stubborn and am planning on putting a TTB D44/D50 hybrid under my V8 Explorer... I'm just gonna plasma the junk that's in my way out and make something that fits...

I did it. There is definitely a minimum tool requirement and some basic fab skills required. It's easiest to destroy the frame in the donor truck and 2wd crossmember in your truck. It is not easy to cut the welds from the engine crossmember to the frame rails. If you are not capable of uniform out of position welds, I would not attempt this.

I cut out the cold rivets and carbon arced the welds from the crossmembers and rewelded and replaced rivets with bolts. A lot of work, but the truck aligned perfectly.

Did you know that with a little practice, its possible to was steel with a cutting torch ? I was taught how to wash steel back in the late 80s by an old timer that worked at the Philadelphia Shipyard. Its one of those things that has gotten lost over the years, not many people are aware of this dying art.

In the context of this application it's cheaper to buy a body saw or use a sawzall.

You dont have to reweld the k member ..can be all bolt in.

Whether or not it's worth it depends on whether or not your content with the current power train. And end goals.

I apologize for the misspelled word, not (was), (wash) steel. Its easier than you might think. It removes unwanted factory welds when you join frame sections together,
