93 2.3l M5OD noise, other issues, trans or clutch?


Haha, sounds like a good deal. The trans shop here quoted me 7-800 bucks to rebuild. I found a kit on ebay for $147, but how much are the shafts?
 
Chances are, you can reuse your shafts. If not, I have some we can use. Some used, and some new.
 
Ok. I talked to the trans parts house and they have kits for same price as ebay, input shafts are 45 and main shafts are 140 or so. Questions...do I need new synchronizers, and do I have 30 or 36 teeth?
 
Check on the price of a cluster gear. Also, you probably have 30 teeth, but if your luck is like mine, best bet is to buy both sets, and return the set we don't use.
 
There is no cluster gear on my year, but there is a cluster shaft, and its like $80.

The trans made a loud bang on the way to church, I was on the highway in overdrive. It seems like its stuck in fourth. This sucks, I've owned te truck 5 days. I was thinking of selling it, but I'll price fixing it first, I guess. I knew this would happen, just not so quick! been a long day! What other year/engine trans fit?

get the synchro's... sounds like taragon has some spare hard parts on hand to probably get you going.

You probably have 30 tooth version, the 36 was '87-92 (from what I learned when I was rebuilding mine), they switched to less teeth so the 5/reverse slider didn't round off like mine did :)

as far as what would go in place of yours, '87-95 2.3L Ranger 4x2, you can do later ones (through mid '01) but they're not going to have the provision for the speedo sensor in the tail housing or on the output shaft.
 
I'd love to get it from you. Are you willing to trade it for a boat that may need a little work? I know nothing about boats, and really don't wanna learn. Lol. It may need some small stuff like a tune up. It's not been in the water for about 2 years. (Sept of 2011 was the last time) Was given to me, but we have a pontoon at the lake. It's a ski boat.

PM me and we can work out details.
 
No thanks on the boat. I aint sure what I'm gonna do yet. I think I'm gonna pull it, and check the damage. Im in it enough now, prob be best to fix it.
 
Youre gonna find the input black and burned, the 1st gear on the cluster burned, and everything in front of the "wall" on the main shaft to be junk. Followed with a clogged oil trough and lots of metal bits in the bottom. Just pull it, bring it to me, and let's rebuild it.
