88 Ranger: Swapping an a4ld for a 5-speed?

My A4LD is shot and I would like to install a stick, for light towing. I have an 88, 2wd Ranger, 2.9 liter. Preference is to buy an old Ranger for all the parts needed to install a 5-spd. What Ranger engine is compatible with the 2.9, so that I can swap straight across? Is the 3.0 compatable? What years should I be looking for? Help needed...thanks.

I liked the 84 but only because they came with an external slave cylinder. I am guessing any diesel or early 2.0/2.3 were the same external cyl. There were a whole lot of blown up bronco II's in the boneyard.
