Hi all,
I have an 88 ranger that had been modified prior to my buying it. The motor was swapped to a 2.9l and fitted with a push button start (which I like a lot btw). The problem I am having is when I push the button to start the truck I just get a fast clicking. Tested the battery and it is fine. Just wondering if other than the solenoid or starter being bad if anyone has a suggestion what else to look at as the problem. Also, How do I tell whether it is the solenoid or the starter?

Thanks

A fast clicking means to me;
Your connections are loose/corroded. Check all connections including grounds and make sure the starter bolts are tight. Use di-electric grease to prevent corrosion in the future.
Good luck,

Richard
