receiving a new ecm for my 87 2.9l man. tran. rwd in approximately 12 hours and i've read through several threads to help me make sure i'm installing it into safe(and otherwise correct) circuitry. the wiring was altered before my relationship with this truck started, and although i can follow a road map/elec diagram, my knowledge and understanding of this subject is less than basic by my estimate(some of my questions may reflect this). i have a few questions i couldn't find answers to yet(either by researching threads here or by the tracing of wires on the vehicle).
1: someone had cut the wire(drkgrn/yel) for the idm resistor circuit, pin 4 of the ecm, below the fuel pump and eec relays. when i reconnected that openning and checked the continuity from the ecm harness to the coil and the ignition module i got 0 ohms. through the reading of info on this site i understand that idm resistor is the equivalent to the ballast resistor of olden days. ages ago when my resistor burnt out on my boat the motor would cut out. the questions here are:
a) how did the truck run with this wire cut(there is no visible evidence this circuit has any other modifications)?
b) i understand that this resistor is 22,000 ohm. why did not the meter show this value when the circuit was tested?
2) the truck has a bare wire that came out from a bundle, and was wire nutted to a short piece of insulated wire that was stuck in the negative battery cable clamp at the battery. i've removed as much of the flexible tubing and electrical tape that i could and the best description i can give is that this wire is/was routed in a bundle that included wires from the ignition module(i believe yel/lt grn, drk blu, and blk{?}). all the wires in this bundle were wrapped in foil. the question here is:
a) where is this wire supposed to terminate,
b) or what is its' function?
