Hello,
86 ranger 2.9L 4x4 Manual Tranny. I was driving home and when I put the pedal down I was loosing power until my truck was just puttering along and then shut off. I kicked the gas tank a few times and It started back up so I thought it was the fuel pump. I just replaced the fuel pump and drove for about 15min and now its happening again... Any help would be great. Thanks

Could be the fuel pump relay.
Could be the ICM.
Could be the inertia switch.

I thought the 86 had two fuel pumps, one lift pump in the tank to provide flow and a high pressure pump on the driver side fuel rail. If the HP pump is making good noise, I'd lean toward the Ignition Module. They heat up and fail.

Any and all of the following threads may help you if it's a fuel pump issue:

I would also suggest HP fuel pump as well. I had this problem, and changing the pump cleared it right up. But test your fuel pressure first.

Check fuel pressure before changing any more parts. I have had this exact symptom 4 or 5 times on my 87. It has been the fuel pump once, and it has never been the same thing twice.

I have had it be:

bad high pressure pump
bad O2 sensor
bad TFI module (the aforementioned "ICM")
Loose wire at the solenoid on the fender
and a wet PCM.
