i have checked shift motor, works and rotates off of the case even tried different motor and different control box under the dash and the transfer case does shift manually, last year it would go into low but then it would get stuck there and had to take mower off and shift manually.
Just a guess, is the TC low on ATF? . The Rat came to me with no shift motor. I shift ranges with small vise grip that I have clamped on the selector shaft. I have it wired in place. I run around town in 4 high with the hubs free wheeling, in case I need it. It isnt push button , but I know when I'm 4 WD.
I have similar problems but they are not on an RBV but are on my Ssangyong. However it is a similar system. In fact it is the same style transfer case and electric shift motor. Most problems with this type of setup occur in the harness plug under the vehicle. Corrosion is not your friend and even though you have cleaned the plug you don't know if water or road salt has penetrated into the plugs and damaged a wire where it hooks onto the male or female side of the plug. It sounds though that your problem is electrical in nature. But to verify you should remove the motor and manually shift it through the ranges. It should shift smoothly. If that checks out break out the ohm meter and start testing continuity through the plug.
i know this is old.... but i got my 4 high to work today after cleaning the shift motor.... but when i hit 4 low it doesnt shift and it actually turns everything off...
what sensor are you speaking of? is it the sensor with the speedometer wire or the small magnet one?
