What you want has "inside snap rings" which go toward the bottom of the u-joint cap, inside the ears of the shaft, as opposed to sitting on top of the cap like on a driveshaft. That style will not work with axle shafts.



I kind of doubt you will have any choice other than Dana. That may actually be a junkyard item... Dana 28 parts in general are getting pretty scarce.

yes those ujoints are the ones I was talking about... I'm gonna get going and order all this stuff... what are the seals called where the axle goes in the differential... man this is gonna not be cheap lol

I found all my parts on a site online... they have everything dana spicer.. broncograveyard.com ... all new parts... might wanna check out the site... its amazing!

I do have a couple more questions...what gear oil should I use and do I use a gasket with sealant for the diff or just sealant or what...

What oil? That's a magic question. I think owners manual might call for 80-w90. I have used Valvoline in the past. On my most recent change, I used Royal Purple 75-w90. You'll get lots of opinions on that. My official answer is "what the manual calls for".

I don't use a gasket on my diff covers. Just get the surfaces really clean and dry and use Permatex Ultra Black or Ultra Gray. Follow directions on the package.

I typically use 75w-140 gear oil.

No gasket, just some ultra black RTV.

Put the RTV around the edge of the cover, put the cover on with the bolts finger tight, then wait at a hour or two for it to start to set, then tighten the bolts. I will typicly wait overnight before I fill, so that way the rtv is fully cured.

thanks so much for the info... I'm a little confused though.. my differential doesn't have a cover that comes off the front... it has bolts holding it to that frame part... is there a cover that fits on it thats behind that frame part...

I seal the diff with "The Right Stuff" by permatex. works great for me

No. The axle beam IS the diff cover. When you unbolt the diff from the beam, the oil cones out and you get to see the innards. Seal it back the way we just described.
