I'm looking at doing the 5.0 conversion on my 1984 ford ranger 2.8l 4x4 with an automatic transmission. I would like to get motor, wire harness, computer, manual transmission from and early 90's mustang. Has anybody done this before? Will the manual tranny be too big/small,length wise, to bolt up to my stock transfer case. Also if you know of any tips or heads up on certain things let me know.
Thanks.

Tranny wont work. They dnt make adapter for the t5. And the stock t/c is crap frm what ive read with 302. U need manual trans and t/c frm f150 or explorer. Pends on if u want 4 or 5 speed to what trans. And if u goin to beat the hell outa it. Sme options are t18,t19,zf,r2 older r2 will work but u need 97-03 top head for shifter location. Np205 &np 208 fit better than 1356 or 1354. Theres others to. U just need to research fullsize f150 t/c. U dnt have enough info on what u wanta do really

When u buy trans u need to get everything. Trans. Starter. Flywheel. Dust cover. T/c. Linkage. Shifters. Boots. Id go with r2 cuz its hyd and easier to put in since ur trans is already hyd. U need 89 ford ranger 7/8 bore master with 89 slave. Just buy a prefilled kit. It 250.00 at bumper to bumper. Make sure u get 7/8 bore. 3/4 dnt push enough fluid. Oh and 97-03 4.2 v6 trans is perfect for shifter location. Pendin on how u set motor. But to keep speedometer. Ul need an older t/c since ur cable goes in t/c. Shop around for t/c that have speedo hookups. I bought 85 bronco np208. Aint got it in yet. So dnt knw pros and cons. Just read read read. And u need to have parts list before u tear into this. Every truck is slightly diff. All depends on what u want

By hyd. Im talkin about ur internal slave cylinder

Thank you for the helpful information, I appreciate it. This was an idea I had since I seen some BA rangers with them. Just seeing what is preferred for my setup.

If u wanta rock crawl. Nv4335 or zf or t18-19 trans would work. The jeep trans is 5 speed with granny low. I dnt knw what the zf is. The t-18 or t-19 is ford 4 speed trans. The r2 are 5 speeds outa 88-96 f150 but ul have to change the top shift tower with 97-03 r2 for proper stick placement. 97-03 r2 are direct bolt up. But u have to get frm 4.2 v6. With 97-03. The 88-96 will be on 300 6 cyl or 4.9. 5.0 or 302. Its been a pain in the a$$ to find info on what hyd master line and slave work with the r2. But il be posting once i grt mine in.most ppl use auto trans cuz its install and drive

I you want to use an np435 you can take a look at my build thread, link in sig.

If you want to use a zf5, look at this guys thread. he did have an np435 at first and it helped me out when I put mine in.
