hey all, our 83 has a set of dual tanks, one under the cab and one in the very back of the box. the main tank under the cab is pretty rusted inside from sitting. I know this is a long shot, but is there a company that still makes a replacement for these trucks? i thought i would be able to use the tank from my 86 parts truck, but it isn't dual tanks and the tank is taller and won't fit under the single cab of the 83.

my other option is to see if i can find a shop that can acid bath the tank. these places are getting hard to find but i may have to,

thanks for any help.

hi, not the same, that one is 21 gals, the one i need it 17.

not a problem i found what i need at lcmtruck parts. someone linked to a different part i am needing and i searched that for tanks and no probs they have them new there.

thanks

Is it directly under the cab. or along the driver side (starting at the cab going back? ) on my 84 it has the 17 gallon tank ,short wheel base and it ends around the rear axle. I took a tank out of an 87 and it fit pretty close, no major fabrication to make fit. If it goes across from frame to frame, you may have to make yours work some how.

hi, yes it goes from under back of cab then along the driver's side frame. the one from the parts truck is higher (taller) where the metal belts go under the tank to hold it in place, and then there is a problem at the back strap too. it doesn't line up with where the cross member goes from the other side of the frame. I tried till i was mad. that is when I realized i was using the 86 tank instead of the 83.

the parts truck tank was clean, the 83 is rusted inside very bad, hence trying the wrong sized tank first. then lined up the 17 gallon and poof fit like a glove.

cheers and thanks for the info.
